Livingston County Ghana Partnerships

Our Buy Local program has taken an amazing international turn.  In an incredible coincidence of history, our Chamber of Commerce starting working with the Rochester Sister Cities Office on an economic/cultural partnership with Ghana at the same time that the State University of New York in Geneseo started working on an academic partnership.

Every year we see new people getting involved from regional business leaders looking to open up new markets for their products, to college student raising money to build schools.  There are so many facets to this partnership, that it would continue to flourish even if some parts faded away.  The partnership has brought together key leaders from government, business, education and the arts to explore new ways we can work together.

I have met leaders in Ghana whose peers in my own country I will likely never meet including the Honorable Georgina Wood, Chief Justice of the Ghanaian Supreme Court, the former president John Agyekum Kufuor, the regional chief Dassabre Oti Boateng and more. It has been thrilling to work closely with such inspirational leaders who are trying to tackle some of the most difficult problems any country can face.

I look forward to a long partnership that will continue to move Ghana forward and to make Livingston County a unique window into the outside world.
